ROLEX MIDDLE SEA RACE.The Rolex Middle Sea Race takes place in October, in the heart of the Mediterranean, the final event of the European sailing season. Starting in the historic setting of Valletta's Grand Harbour, the fleet travels through probably the most visually stunning course in the world, as it makes its way around Sicily. Along the 606 nautical mile journey, sights include, the Strait of Messina, the azure clear waters of Sicily, the Islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa and the ultimate highlight, the active volcano of Stromboli, before returning to Malta. Tactically demanding, with famously changeable weather conditions, this is a classic test of seamanship.
