Die Journalistin Carrie Bradshaw schreibt eine viel gelesene Sex-Kolumne für den "New York Star". Mit ihren Freundinnen PR-Managerin Samantha Jones, Galeristin Charlotte York und Anwältin Miranda Hobbes untersucht sie das Paarungsverhalten der New Yorker: Miranda findet heraus, dass sie schwanger ist. Ein Kind passt überhaupt nicht in ihre Planung. Also spielt sie mit dem Gedanken, das Kind abzutreiben. Ihre Freundinnen verstehen das. Nur Charlotte, die so gerne ein Kind hätte, ist schockiert.
